50 YEARS AGO:

• The Key West City Commission invited the Lakeland Tigers of the Florida State Baseball League to finish their 1964 season in Key West.

• Airman Third Class Joseph C. Lewis III graduated from the technical training course for jet mechanics at Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas.

• There were renewed calls for state action to prevent accidents involving bridge fishermen. A bill that allowed fishing only from the catwalks was amended to make it ineffective. Four of Monroe County's 18 traffic victims in 1963 were bridge fishermen.

• The Monroe County Grand Jury issued a warning that Communists, Pinkos or any other group that defied the law faced investigation and possible indictment.
