MATTIE PEARL WHYMS
Mattie Pearl Whyms was born to the late Odessa and Sylvester Murphy Sr. on May 16, 1943 in Camilla, Ga.
Her education was received from Douglas School where she graduated as valedictorian. Mattie was a very smart woman. She met the love of her life, Lee Whyms Sr. in 1960 and they married in 1962, and remained faithfully married until his passing in 2008. She retired in 2012 after over 20 faithful years as a pharmacy technician at the Florida Keys Hospital.
Their union produced four children, Kristina DeLisa, Lee Jr., Juila Ann and Alvin.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Whyms Sr., her parents Odessa and Sylvester Murphy Sr., her brothers Jimmy Murphy, Sylvester Murphy Jr., sister-in-laws Betty Howard, Dolores Mitchell and her brother-in-laws Jessie Mitchell Sr. and James Sanderson.
She leaves to cherish her memories four children, Kristina (BJ) Hicks, Lee (Leyda) Whyms Jr., Julia Ann Whyms and Alvin (Wendy) Whyms; one brother and sister, James (Chandra) Murphy Jr., and Evelyn Diane Murphy; brother-in-laws Robert (Thelma) Whyms Jr., and Clarence Wilson, sister-in-laws Barbara Sanderson, Rosemary (Kenneth) Rahming Sr., and Yvonne (Carl) Allen; nine grandchildren Michael (Yoirelys), Nathaniel, Jasmine, Dalvin, Lee III (Joy), Jafre-Paul, Franchesca, Mariah and Makaila; five great-grandchildren Alexis, Michael Jr., Vizcays, Natalia, Olivia and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and sorrowing friends.
All services will be at the Southernmost Prayer a Faith Center Church located at 729 Fleming St.
The viewing will be Friday, June 27 at 7 p.m. and the funeral will be Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m.
