50 YEARS AGO

Outgoing Monroe County Sheriff Henry V. Haskins announced he would place all the department's personnel under civil service on July 1. Opponents of the move said it would prevent Sheriff-elect Reace Thompson from operating the department.

Fast action by Marine Major R.V. Molesky saved a 10-year-old girl from drowning in a local motel pool.

The family of Armando Fernandez, who died from a knife wound from his wife, filed a claim for his estate.

Airman Third Class Stan W. Singleton graduated from the technical training course for jet mechanics at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. He was a graduate of Key West High School.
