With partnerships come progress, and the Key West Chamber of Commerce has joined forces with the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys to explore strategic community alliances among the public and private sector.
The two groups will co-host a free Community Forum at 6 p.m. July 14 at the Westin Key West Resort, where free parking will be available. Mark Brewer, president and CEO of the Central Florida Foundation, will facilitate a discussion of "Civic Engagement and Partnering for Impact: Realizing Community and Economic Development."
Brewer helps communities build partnerships that meet local issues and produce measurable results.
In the wake of Hurricane Wilma in 2005, the alliance between the Key West Chamber and the Community Foundation gave rise to the My Key West Emergency Relief Fund, which raised $1.3 million in the first 90 days following the storm. The Fund then quickly re-granted those funds back into the community, helping thousands of Lower Keys families and business owners reclaim their lives from the flood waters of Wilma.
The two groups want to explore further possibilities for these partnerships, and learn how to maximize their potential. For more information, or to RSVP, call the Key West Chamber of Commerce at 305-294-2587 or email email@example.com.
