A total of 22 Cuban migrants were found Monday by the Coast Guard, including five who came ashore on Fleming Key.
Seventeen additional Cubans were found on Bay Key about five miles north of Fleming Key, the Coast Guard said.
A search began Sunday night after a boater alerted the Coast Guard that he had seen migrants headed for shore.
A low-flying Coast Guard helicopter on Monday was searching for them around Key West. U.S. policy allows anyone from Cuba who reaches shore after sailing across the 100 miles of Florida Straits may stay in the country.
