Audrey Styron Flowers, 79, of Key West, Fla. passed away on July 2, 2014 due to lung disease and was being cared for by her son Steven and his family in Alabama. Audrey was born on April 28, 1935 and grew up in Oriental, N.C. She is preceded in death by her parents Roland and Lila Mae Styron, her beloved husband, Al Myra Flowers, her sisters Nell Hunton and Shirley Lock, her loving daughter-in-law Paula Flowers (Steve) and her late husband Ralph Brady.

After training as a hair stylist, she and her husband Al moved to Key West where she worked for a brief time at Shorty's Diner. The Styron and Flowers families were early pioneers in the shrimping industry in Key West. They owned and operated Styron Shrimp Company which was located at what is now the Half Shell Raw Bar. The business included a fleet of three shrimp boats; the Al Jr., the Steven Shayne and the Ol Stud. Audrey served as the company book keeper. She was a long time member, pianist and board member of the Big Coppit United Methodist Church. Audrey will always be remembered for her positive outlook, elegant bearing and strong love of family.

She is survived by her sons Al Myra Flowers (Melissa), Steven Douglas Flowers (Vanessa), and Roland Shayne Flowers (Kimberly), grandchildren; Audrey LaShan, Alyssa (Hakan Bouman), Deana (Joe Freeman), Steven Jr. (Liz), Jessica (Guy Barron), Melissa (Jean Senat) Aimee (Kevin Paus), and Roland Jr. and great-grandchildren Zach, Dylan, Isabella, Briton, Baylor, Judson, Addison, Clayton, Amelia and her brother Stanley Styron Jr.

Memorial services will be Friday, July 11 2014 at 11 a.m. at New Bern National Cemetary, New Bern, North Carolina. A celebration of life will be held in Key West at later date, to be announced.
