Recycling businesses honored

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is awarding two local businesses for exceeding the state's recycling rate goal for 2013.

The Green Parrot bar and Blue Heaven, a Bahama Village restaurant, were statewide leaders with recycling rates of 59 percent and 59 percent, respectively, the FDEP said. The Parrot is the first bar in Florida to pass the 40 percent annual goal and Blue Heaven is the first restaurant to do the same, city staff said.

FDEP Secretary Herschel Vinyard will present the awards at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Old City Hall, 510 Greene Street, during the city's budget workshop.
