• The FBI's annual crime report showed that Key West had a more than 10 percent increase in crimes from the previous year. In 1963 there had been three murders, 20 robberies and 26 aggravated assaults.

• The $2,188,771 Monroe County budget for 1964 and 1965 had an increase of $73,000 over the last year's budget.

• Opposition was growing for City Electric System's proposed 69 kilovolt power line circling the city.

• Lt. Commander R.F. Fleming, commanding officer of the Underwater Swimmers in Key West, gave a speech at the fifth annual convention of the Underwater Society of America in Mexico City.
