ISLAMORADA -- Leadership Monroe County invites the public to a social reception to introduce the program for the upcoming Class XXIII, which begins in October.

The event is planned for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 24, at The Islamorada Resort, 80001 Overseas Highway.

Applying class members will learn about the 2014-15 sessions and the scope, mission and benefits of becoming part of this countywide program that seeks to build alliances among Florida Keys leaders in the public and private sectors.

Founded in 1992, the program is aimed at residents who are active in leadership roles in the private sector, government or nonprofit community.

Through a series of one and multi-day sessions over a seven-month period, participants examine such topics as the environment, tourism and the economy, government, education, military, the law and judiciary, emergency management, arts and culture, health and human services, among others.

More than 500 people have participated in the program since being established.
