A 71-year-old man died Thursday while snorkeling with nine other people near the Carysfort lighthouse.
John Marshall of Johns Creek, Ga., was on his way back to the 25-foot private vessel his group was using at about noon when a diver noticed Marshall was facedown in the water, according to the sheriff's office report
They pulled him into the boat, and another boat pulled up with a doctor on board who began CPR, said Deputy Becky Herrin. Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission responded and brought Marshall to shore, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy will determine the cause of death.
