• The Monroe County Commission, in a "secret meeting," approved plans to raze the 11-year-old jail and replace it with a new jail and courtroom facilities. The county still owed $90,000 on the building.

• The District Court of Appeal dismissed the complaint of Margaret M. Siruge who claimed she was still married to Joe Siruge when he died.

• Police Chief Armando Perez and Fire Chief J.A. Farto ended their probationary periods and became regular employees.

• The Monroe County Commission leased Pigeon Key to the University of Miami for five years for marine research.
