Heavy rain affects boulevard roadwork

Travelers this week should avoid North Roosevelt Boulevard when entering or leaving the island to avoid lane closures and shifts, a spokesman for the state's $42 million construction project said Monday.

"Due to the heavy rains recently, some of the road striping may have to be done during the daytime, which will add to the lane closure issues," said Dean Walters. "We recommend that to prevent excessive delays, especially inbound, that you use Flagler Avenue and/or South Roosevelt Boulevard to enter and exit the island, and to access the North Roosevelt businesses."

FDOT says all five lanes will open to traffic Aug. 12.
