• The $200,000 sale of a 13.2-acre tract of oceanfront and bay bottom along Rest Beach was announced. The property, located at the corner of Atlantic Boulevard and Bertha Street, consisted of 500 feet of beachfront land and five acres of bay bottom.

• The summer tourist business was booming with the Conch Train reporting a 10 percent increase over the previous summer.

• Key West passed a law modernizing the occupational license regulation covering 250 business classifications.

• The National Urban League was seeking an end to segregation in public housing, including the four public housing projects in Key West.
