50 YEARS AGO:

• Monroe General Hospital was looking at a plan to install a sewer system that would sell reusable water to the golf course.

• The hospital board was still trying to work out a policy for an emergency ambulance service in Key West.

• The Monroe County School Board sold the frame house at 1126 Pearl St. George Rema took the bannister and part of the front porch and the Seventh Day Adventist Church moved the rest of the building to Julia Street to use as a school for the church.

• The two-man team hired by the Monroe County Hospital Board to collect bad debts reported they were getting very little money from the board.
