50 YEARS AGO:

Gerald Abreu Jr. was named as chairman of Monroe County Youth for Goldwater.

In the first six months of 1964, 7.5 million pounds of shrimp, with a value of $4,000,000, was landed in Monroe County.

The Monroe County School Board held an open house for the new Horace O'Bryant Junior High School. Superintendent O'Bryant, for whom the school was named, attended.

The State Road Department ordered that fishermen must use the catwalks when fishing from bridges.
