Two lost Pennsylvania teenagers were rescued from the Big Pine Key backcountry Tuesday.
A mother called Monroe County Fire Rescue at 2 a.m. after one of the teens reported that they found MCFR Station 13, but the doors were locked, reports say. Deputies responded and located the uninjured teens who were hungry and thirsty, reports say.
"They were pretty lucky this time" said MCFR Capt. Tim Leonard, deputy fire marshal. "They remembered their mom's good advice to seek help from the local fire/rescue station. It can be dangerous to travel without a plan for emergencies and enough resources to get the help you need. Always stay in close contact with friends or loved ones so they know how and where to reach you."
