Drones on city's agenda

City commissioners Wednesday will take their first look at a newly proposed local law that would ban unmanned drones that have audio and video recording capabilities in certain areas including sporting events and special events.

Sponsored by Commissioner Jimmy Weekley, the anti-drone ordinance would require owners of such drones to register their devices with the city and carry insurance. Drones without recording equipment wouldn't have to follow the new law.

Commissioners meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Old City Hall, 510 Greene St. A second reading of the proposal is required for final approval.
