1 county jail escapee found, 1 remains on lam

One of two men who escaped from the Marathon jail Thursday night threatened a Monroe County sheriff's deputy with a knife before his capture and threatened to "put a bullet" in his head when he got out of jail.

Alexis Perez-Herrera, 39, of Homestead, was charged with escape, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, assault and possession of a weapon while committing a felony offense.

Islamorada deputies discovered Perez-Herrera hiding out on an American Coach Lines bus that was northbound from Marathon to Florida City, reports say, which they stopped on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 86. The bus predominately carries commuting workers between their Keys jobs and mainland homes.
