A 35-year-old Big Coppitt Key man who was airlifted to a Miami hospital early Friday for second-degree burns on his chest and abdomen, told deputies three men set him on fire while he sat in his porch.

Kirby Smith Irvin told deputies he didn't know his attackers, who he claimed doused him with an accelerant and set him ablaze. Irvin said he rolled on the ground to douse the flames.

Deputies, however, found no evidence to support Irvin's claims, and said he was intoxicated, reports say.
