Two Hawks Cay homes destroyed in fire

Two homes in Hawks Cay, an upscale resort on Duck Key, appraised at about $750,000 each burned in an early Friday morning fire that drew fire crews throughout the Upper Keys, said Monroe County Interim Fire Chief Jim Callahan.

The two homes and most of their contents were destroyed in the 12:30 a.m. blaze.

No one was home at the time of the fire and no one was injured, Callahan said. Property records show the owners' addresses as Miami and Davie, Fla.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
