If both Los Angeles teams make it to the World Series, it might be pleasant, but maybe not perfect, weather. If it's New York versus Philadelphia, the games might have to be postponed until the spring thaw. Game 4 of the World Series is scheduled for Nov. 1.

Better get out the snowmobile suits. It'll be like watching a football game in the great North outdoors. Snow, cold. You have to be mighty loyal.

Reidier Gonzalez got his first work in the Arizona Fall League on Wednesday. He pitched three innings, giving up a run, four hits, no walks, while striking out two for the Phoenix Desert Dogs. The Key West grad hurled the middle three innings and picked up the victory.

Gonzalez, in the Toronto system, pitched in the Class AA Eastern League during the summer, winning 4, losing 6, with an earned run average of 2.90 in 17 starts for New Hampshire.

J. L. Jamison writes to remind me that Richard Bancells, a graduate of Mary Immaculate, is the head trainer for the Baltimore Orioles and has been in the Major Leagues for more than 30 years. Says Jamison: "He came up through the minors with Cal Ripken and was there for his entire career. Cal thanked him personally in his Hall of Fame speech for keeping him healthy his whole career."

I take back everything I thought and wrote about the Dolphins reminding me of two seasons ago. Sunday's victory, in the last six seconds over the New York Jets, has to go down in my Top 10 of exciting pro football games. Of course, to make the list, I have to be rooting for the winning team -- as I was a year ago when Miami wrapped up the regular season by winning at New York (or New Jersey) and securing the division championship.

With football season (college and pro) heating up, auto racing is dropping off my radar and I'm a constant NASCAR viewer in the good, old summer time. I'm having a hard time keeping track of the baseball playoffs, too; mainly, I assume, because of the late (for us in the East) starting times. A friend from California told me the other day that early starting times for all sports is what he misses most after moving from the West Coast. Our daughter in San Diego says she loves to wake up just in time for pro football kickoffs (at 10 a.m.).
