Hurricanes drop ninth straight

HOLLYWOOD -- The frustrations continued Friday night for the Coral Shores High football team.

The Hurricanes travelled north to take on District 8-2B foe Chaminade-Madonna, the fourth-ranked 2B team in the state, and left with a 55-6 loss. The defeat dropped Coral Shores to 0-9 on the season and 0-6 in district play, while the Lions remained unbeaten at 8-0 and 6-0.

The 'Canes hung tight defensively, according to coach Kelly Clark, but allowed too many big-yardage plays en route to the blowout loss.

"We played fairly strong in the first half, but the big plays killed us," Clark said. "Our pass defense has been poor all year. We're not progressing in the way I'd like in that manner."

Courtney Dixon rushed in Coral Shores' lone touchdown from 1 yard out in the fourth quarter.

Clark said he was pleased with his team's better ball-handling Friday night. In a loss last week, the Hurricanes fumbled eight times. Friday night, they fumbled three times and lost just two.

Coral Shores, which trailed 14-0 after the first and then 41-0 at the half, will return home Friday night to wrap up the season against Archbishop Carroll.
