ISLAMORADA -- A sick-leave transfer policy and a road abandonment requested by a potential Village Council candidate will be on the agenda when the council meets for it regular meeting at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Founders Park Community Center
Under the sick-leave proposal put forward by Village Manager Ken Fields, staffers who have accrued sick time would be able to transfer those hours to a coworker suffering from a catastrophic health condition. The recipient would receive a maximum of 480 donated hours of sick time -- the equivalent of 12 weeks paid time.
On the road abandonment front, council members will consider the request of Ken Philipson, a likely Village Council candidate who was the council's second choice to Deb Gillis last summer in the contest to replace former Councilwoman Cathi Hill.
Philipson wants control of a 100-by-18-foot section of right-of-way that runs along his Tropical Optical property at mile marker 81.9 on the Old Highway. The Islamorada Planning Department has recommended approval of the abandonment.
