KEY WEST

Air Methods marks anniversary

Air Methods Key West is preparing to celebrate two years of air trauma service in Monroe County.

Air Methods transports interfacility flights from all Monroe County hospitals and also covers Dry Tortugas National Park for all emergencies and all trauma cases from the city of Key West.

Marina earns 'clean' designation

The Key Largo Resorts Marina recently was awarded the Clean Marina Certification in recognition of its efforts in adopting environmentally friendly practices from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and Clean Boating Partnership.

The voluntary program works to reduce pollutants and adopt safeguards that protect the cleanliness of Florida's waterways. Areas in the certification plan include: emergency preparedness, fueling practices, regulated storage tanks, waste disposal, engine maintenance and repair, boat cleaning, storm water management, landscaping, fish waste, sewage, sensitive habitat and endangered species, and marina environmental quality.

Some of Key Largo Resorts Marina's initiatives include the use of oil absorbers in bilges, utilization of recycling centers and the installation of multiple trash receptacles.

Located at Mile Marker 100, Key Largo Resorts includes three properties: Marina del Mar Key Largo, Ramada Limited Key Largo and the Holiday Inn Key Largo.

Sloppy's names top employees

Sloppy Joe's recently presented Bruce "DJ Hogg" Smith and Jean Riche with the Jean Klausing Employee of the Month Award.

Smith is a DJ at Sloppy Joe's and Riche is part of the kitchen team. Both were chosen for their outstanding performance, honesty and dedication to their work.

SBA launches training course

The U.S. Small Business Administration has launched a new online training course, "Recovery Act Opportunities: How to Win Federal Contracts," to help strengthen access to contracting opportunities for small businesses.

"The SBA online training course can help businesses access the federal purchasing system and position themselves to compete for the commercial opportunities offered by government contracting," SBA Administrator Karen G. Mills said in a press release.

The free course is available at http://www.sba.gov/fedcontractingtraining.
