RAYMOND L. ALLDAFFER
Raymond L. "Big Al" Alldaffer passed away Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West. Raymond was born June 18, 1939, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Earl and Hilda (Weigle) Alldaffer. Raymond was brought to Key West by the Navy in 1959, and served 20 years in the Navy. He retired as a 1st class petty officer. During his career he was a Naval Aviation Ordnanceman. He served several tours at Naval Air Station Boca Chica VF-101, NAS Oceana, Va., VF-74, NAS Argentia, Newfoundland (station weapons) and Bermuda. He also served aboard the USS Lake Champlain, USS Forrestal and USS Nimitz.
Following Raymond's Navy career he returned to Key West and was employed by the Florida Highway Patrol as a communications officer for over 15 years. He retired from the Florida Highway Patrol and was employed by the U.S. Civil Service at Boca Chica in administration, with nine years of service.
Raymond was a life member of the DAV and the USS Forrestal Reunion Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Bagley; brother Lawrence Alldaffer; all of Salina, Kan.; and brother Earl Alldaffer Jr. of California.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Addie Grace Muse Alldaffer; a daughter, Susan Marie Hughes and her husband, Dan; two granddaughters, Caitlin and Emily Hughes of Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, William (Jan) Alldaffer of New Braunfels, Texas, and Robert Alldaffer of Bronson, Texas. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, in the Dean-Lopez Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, also in the Dean-Lopez Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in the Key West City Cemetery.
