SHERWOOD I. 'WOODY' REIFSNYDER

Sherwood I. "Woody" Reifsnyder, 77, resident of Big Pine Key since 1997, died early Monday morning, Nov. 23, 2009, at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Reading, Pa., to Ira Whitey Reifsnyder and Naomi Ruth (Zellers) Reifsnyder. He graduated from Sinking Spring (Pa.) High School. He was a paratrooper for the Army's 11th Airborne Division, a retired truck driver and a member of the local Teamsters Union.

Woody and his wife, Jan, spent summers at their home in Pequea, Pa., along the Susquehanna River. He enjoyed boating, fishing, water skiing and camping. He also enjoyed deer hunting in Potter County, Pa. Woody was a member of the Sinking Spring Fire Co., the Sinking Spring VFW, West Wyomissing and Fritztown Fire companies and the West Laun Quoiting Club.

He was also a life member of the Pequea Boat Club. In Florida, he was a member of the Big Pine Key Moose Lodge and the American Legion in Marathon. He enjoyed spending time at Coconuts Lounge on Big Pine Key.

Woody is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janice (Hafer) Reifsnyder, known as Jan. He had four children: JoAnn Mezaraups and Cindy Long, both in Louisiana, Bret Reifsnyder in South Carolina, and Troy Reifsnyder in Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Terry Reifsnyder in Pennsylvania.

As per his wishes, his remains were cremated. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at The Lord of the Seas Lutheran Church, 1250 Key Deer Blvd., Big Pine Key, Fla.
