Edward C. Moran
Edward C. Moran, born Feb. 12, 1949, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, surrounded by his loving family, wife, Lucy; daughter, Kayo; son-in-law, Scott; and granddaughter, Merritt.
Ed was a 28-year resident of Key West, born in Pittsburgh, Pa., raised in New York, N.Y. Upon finishing high school, Ed joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served honorably two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in October 1974. Upon discharge, Ed worked as a helicopter mechanic in Ohio. He then moved to become chief engineer in the oil fields of Texas and Louisiana. Ed then moved to Key West and found the life he enjoyed. His love of fishing led to him winning "Mate of the Year" in the mid-80s. Ed moved on from there to pursue other interests, such as becoming a published writer.
Ed met the love of his life, Lucy Marie, in 1992 in New Jersey. Shortly thereafter, Lucy moved to Key West and they were married on July 4, 1993. Eddie and Lucy enjoyed their life in Key West, which led to their involvement with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3911. Ed was a past commander of VFW Post 3911, where Lucy was a tireless fundraiser for many causes. Ed's involvement with the VFW continued until his health deteriorated.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Florida Keys for their diligent help and concern.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes all donations be made to the VFW National Home for Children, 3573 South Waverly Road, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at VFW Post 3911.
