Key lime pie book released
Local author David L. Sloan will hold a book-signing party from 4 to 8 p.m. tonight at The Porch, 429 Caroline St., for his latest book, "The Ultimate Key Lime Pie Cookbook."
The cookbook features easy-to-follow recipes with instructions to mix and match 20 different types of crust, fillings, toppings and sauces. Sloan also included plenty of history about the legendary dessert, 15 classic recipes from the past and amusing facts about the pie and its island birthplace.
The book sells for $19.95 and is also available at amazon.com.
Small-business, craft show
There will be a small-business and craft show Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the DoubleTree Grand Key Resort, 3990 S. Roosevelt Blvd.
Meet local small-business professionals and direct-sell companies. Items that will be offered for sale include Gypsy Petals hair accessories, Stella & Dot jewelry, Valentines and greeting cards by Invites by Danette, South Hill Designs, Scentsy, Cakes by Sylvia, Mary Kay, ZEN, Key West Sea Glass, Steele Grace, Shelf Reliance and more. The event is free to enter and open to the public.
Social Security goes online
The Social Security Administration now offers a personalized online account service citizens can use to access and print official benefit verification letters, payment history and earnings records.
Nine million people last year requested verification letters, which serve as proof of income to secure loans, mortgages and other housing, and state or local benefits. It also proves age, current Medicare health insurance coverage, and retirement or disability status.
People 18 and older can sign up for an account and find more information at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.
