What's up with our reluctance to get rid of old cellphones, the cool boxes they came in, obsolete chargers, cables, power cords, wireless routers and DSL modems?

Because judging from some of my friends' homes and work spaces, I'm clearly not the only one who stashes these things in a messy cabinet and keeps them for years "just in case."

I've never needed...
