The contractor for a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project in Marathon pleaded guilty to bribery charges on Wednesday.

Ron Capobianco, Jr., 40, of Pompano Beach, pleaded guilty Wednesday to committing bribery in connection with programs receiving federal funds, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

He faces up to 10 years' prison, three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced May 7.

The U.S. Attorney's Office charged Capobianco last month.

Capobianco was assigned as the FDOT District 4 Signalization and Lighting Liaison and consulted with FDOT experts on certain aspects of signal and lighting construction, including the use of video detection cameras.

In 2009, Capobianco agreed to accept a bribe from a subcontractor working on a project, federal officials charge. Federal agents did not name the subcontractor in court documents. The subcontractor offered to pay Capobianco $5,000 if the subcontractor could receive at least $25,000 for installing video detection equipment, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
