The owner of a local tree service company is in critical condition in a coma at Ryder Trauma Center in Miami after falling out of a tree onto concrete last week.
Dan Kramer, owner of Dan's Tropical Tree Service, was trimming trees at a lodging establishment on United Street on April 4 when he lost his balance while attaching his safety harness and fell.
Kramer, who has a wife and two young daughters, sustained massive injuries to his head, shoulder, arm, hand, pelvis, leg and foot. His wife, Karem, and the two girls have been by his side in Miami since the accident, said Cece Roycraft, owner of Dive Key West and a friend of Kramer, who is an avid scuba diver.
"Dan is known around town as a cheerful hard worker, avid diver and loving family man," Roycraft said.
She has established The Dan Kramer Fund at IBERIA BANK, 1000 Kennedy Drive, Key West, to help the family. Donations to help the young, local family may be made at the bank.
