The Educational Coalition for Monroe County (ECMC) is holding auditions for "Dancing Classrooms" teaching artists at 1 p.m. today at Paradise Health and Fitness, 1706 N. Roosevelt Blvd.
Auditions also will be held at 2 p.m. May 19 in the media center of Marathon Middle High School, 350 Sombrero Beach Road in Marathon. Candidates must attend one of these auditions.
The ECMC is seeking individuals who move well and are interested in having fun teaching the basics of ballroom dancing to fifth- and eighth-grade students attending Monroe County public schools.
"Dancing Classrooms," a research-based program, was featured in the hit documentary "Mad Hot Ballroom," and was the inspiration for the feature film "Take the Lead," with Antonio Banderas.
The time commitment is from August through June.
Applicants must have two to four days per week available, a flexible schedule, and must also be able to pass a background check.
A reservation to audition must be made prior to the audition date.
Ballroom dance experience is not necessary.
Training will be provided in Marathon in June by New York City teaching artist Rodney Lopez to selected teaching artists.
Positions are available at school sites countywide.
