MARATHON -- A fire at a Marathon marina destroyed two boats and damaged a third before sunrise on Sunday.
Authorities responded to Pancho's Fuel Dock at Burdine's Waterfront at Mile Marker 47 just before 5 a.m. Sunday. Initial reports stated that a 30-foot powerboat was burning, according to a press release from Deputy Becky Herrin of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.
The fire quickly spread to a second boat as deputies tried to evacuate the area surrounding the fire, Herrin said.
By 5:30 a.m., firefighters had controlled the fire on both vessels and extinguished them by 6 a.m., Herrin reported.
Representatives from the fire marshal's office are investigating to determine the cause. No information about the boat owners was immediately available Sunday.
