ISLAMORADA -- The Village Council will convene at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, for its regularly scheduled legislative session.
Among the issues the council is scheduled to debate is a proposed administrative variance that would allow Scott Daiagi to build a 325-foot dock at his property near mile marker 89 on the Old Highway. The village typically caps dock lengths at 100 feet.
The planning department has recommended approval of the variance, but a neighbor has appealed the decision.
Council members will also consider the proposed $457,000 purchase of county-owned property just south of the Plantation Key Government Center. The 0.63-acre site would house a pump station for the village's $115.6 million sewer system.
The council will also have a long-delayed discussion about the job performance of Village Manager/Planning Director Ed Koconis. Koconis received lukewarm reviews in written evaluations council members submitted in March.
That discussion will be followed by one regarding Koconis' contract. Three council members have previously said they would like to remove a clause in the contract that allows Koconis to return to retain the planning director portfolio, and a six-figure salary, should he be dismissed as manager.
Koconis has said he wants to retain the fallback option.
