KEY WEST: The U.S. Coast Guard is leading a homeland security exercise with multiple agencies today in Key West. It is only a drill, emphasizes city spokeswoman Alyson Crean.
"Please note that this is a full scale field exercise, which means people may see these multiple agencies on and near the water, looking as if they're responding to a real emergency," Crean said.
The exercise is based on the Area Maritime Security Training and Exercise Program, the Coast Guard said.
Public agencies involved include: the city, Keys Energy, Monroe County Tourist Development Council, Sheriff's Office, Florida Fish Wildlife Conservation Commission, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Navy, FBI, Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations and the Transportation Security Administration. The Westin Resort and Marina and Caribe Nautical also will participate.
