Mildred Margaret Ryan
Mildred Margaret Ryan passed away peacefully in San Jose, Calif., on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Rose Meadows Elder Care. She leaves behind a loving family and many great friends.
Mildred was born on June 15, 1920, in Stockton, Calif., and graduated from Highland School of Nursing in Oakland, Calif. She served in the U.S. Navy as a nurse from 1944 to 1946. It was while serving as a Navy nurse in Bremerton, Wash., that Mildred met her husband, Daniel W. Ryan, whom she was married to for 56 years until his death in 2003. During their retirement years, they split their time between Midland, Mich., and Big Pine Key, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings and many dear friends. She is survived by her six children: Kathy (Max) Fraley, Nancy (Gil) Cheso, Patricia Ryan, Susan (Brooks) Thommes, Tom (Carrie) Ryan and Karen (Shawn) Quinn. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Matthew, Christopher, Lindsay, Katie, John, Mary Megan, Lucas, Kristen and Blake.
Mildred will be remembered for her love of life, love for her family, and her love of the game of golf (up to the end she had hopes of being able to swing a club again). She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
A mass will be said for her intention at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at St. Peter Church, Big Pine Key. A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at Assumption Church, Midland, Mich., where Mildred and Dan were parishioners for over 30 years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library, 1710 W St. Andrews, Midland, MI 48640.
