Marathon High School student John Galjanic has been nominated as Monroe County School District's Sunshine State Scholar.
The Sunshine State Scholars program was founded in 1997. Currently the Florida Education Foundation asks each of Florida's school districts to identify their top 11th-grade student in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
As county representative, John, his parents and a teacher will travel to Orlando in February for an extraordinary two-day program, the school says.
In addition to bringing together the scholars to be honored, the foundation invites representatives from Florida's colleges and universities to meet with the students and discuss career and post-secondary opportunities available to them in Florida.
