The Monroe County Teachers Federal Credit Union announced the names of 12 area teachers at a recent school board meeting who received $250 each in the credit union's second annual "Sponsor A Classroom" initiative.
The funds will help the teachers buy much-needed supplies and equipment to enhance the students' learning experiences.
Credit union CEO Jerry Bolduc received numerous requests; the credit union's board selected the winners based on merit and need.
"We just want to help in any way we can," Bolduc said.
The credit union is celebrating its 63rd anniversary of serving the Florida Keys educational community.
Awardees included Cameron Murray and Joy Smith of Key West High School; Tracy McDonald of Marathon High; Jessica Caton of Gerald Adams Elementary; Callie Hubbell and Regan Godsell of Horace O'Bryant School; Robin Black of Poinciana Elementary; Christine Crispino of Stanley Switlik Elementary; Kevin Walden of Sugarloaf School; Cynthia Ypsilanti of Key Largo K-8 School; Donna Roberts of Plantation Key School; and Kristina Hicks of Florida Keys Community College.
