FRANK JESUS MARTIN
Frank Jesus Martin, formerly of Key West, passed away on Nov. 27, 2013, in Miami, Fla., with his loving family by his side after a brief illness.
Frank's family, including his father, Francisco "Pancho" Martin, mother, Emma Martin, and Frank's wife, Mayra, formerly owned and operated the El Siboney Restaurant in Key West, where they made many friends and are still greatly esteemed.
Frank was born in the Province of Havana, Cuba, on Oct. 10, 1960. He came to the United States in 1968 with his parents, Pancho and Emma Martin, when he was just seven years old. He graduated from Key West High School and in 1980 he married the love of his life, Mayra, whom he met in while vacationing in Cuba. Together, they began their beautiful life in Key West and were blessed with two children: Frank Martin Jr., 30, and Barbara Ann Martin, 22. Frank Jr. graduated from Key West High School in 2002; Barbara graduated from Barbara Gole High School in 2010.
Both children now reside in Miami with Martin family relatives.
Frank was a devoted son, husband and father. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends as well as traveling, especially on cruises. He also loved coming back home to Key West and dining at Alonzo's Restaurant.
He was an excellent cook, specializing in big family feasts. Frank will be remembered as the family patriarch, and a reliable friend to all who knew him. In many ways, he was the center of the family, and festivities and decisions all revolved around him. He was a devoted and loving son, and not a day would go by without Frank having lunch with his mother and father. They are overcome with grief at this sudden loss.
Frank was adored by his wife of 34 years, Mayra. They were very close and she depended on Frank for everything. Though he will be sorely missed, his presence will live on in the love, affection and permanent smile that he openly shared with everyone. His greatest love was his family, and he was very proud of his children. He was a hero, teacher and best friend to his daughter Barbarita and son Frankie. "He was the best father in the world, our everything," said his children.
Frank is survived by his immediately family, children and parents, and also by aunt and godmother Blanca Martin; aunt Magaly Martin; uncle and godfather Norberto Martin; uncle Juanito Padron and aunts Elsa Padron Perez and Gladys. He is also survived by numerous cousins in Key West and Miami.
Frank was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Maria Santiago and Geronimo Padron of Cuba. He was also preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Argimiro Martin and Gabriela Cartaya, and his uncles Gilberto Martin of Cuba and "Tatica" Martin of Key West. A funeral was held in Miami, however, correspondence may be sent to the Martin Family at 17436 NW 91st Court, Hialeah, FL 33018.
