Joy Ann Stubblefield
Joy Stubblefield passed away at her daughter's home in Appleton, Wis., on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, after a short bout with brain cancer. She was surrounded by members of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Victoria (Curry) Lessard and her brother Wally. She attended high school in Minneapolis, Minn., and graduated from nursing school with a B.S. degree.
Joy is survived by her husband of almost 14 years, Bob; two daughters, Kathy (Mike) Moy-Bye and Elizabeth (John) Briggs; five grandchildren, Erin (Chris) Walsh, Adria (Andy) Lind, Benjamin (girlfriend Alex) Bye, Nicholas and Anna Briggs; four great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Allen (Kim) Stubblefield, Stephen (Bonnie), Brian (Mary) and Lisa (significant other Alex) Barta; and eight stepgrandchildren.
Her crowning achievement, besides raising two daughters, Kathy and Liz, was serving for over 25 years as executive director of Lincoln Lutheran of Racine. Under her guiding hand, Lincoln Lutheran thrived through expansion in the number of facilities and in the number and types of programs to benefit the elderly. Although she attempted to reflect the glory away from herself, those close to the organization ascribed its successes to her leadership. She was called upon to consult for Lutheran Social Services all over the nation when other facilities had problems.
Joy enjoyed cooking and would read cookbooks as most people read novels. She thoroughly enjoyed living in Key West, Fla., and was a member of the Fifth Street Baptist Church in that city. She enjoyed watching the weddings on Smathers Beach and sitting with her husband simply looking at the Atlantic Ocean from their fifth-floor balcony.
A celebration of Joy's life will be held at the Fifth Street Baptist Church at a date to be determined.
