Owners of six unique waterfront showplaces in Key Colony Beach are busy readying their homes and gardens for the annual Home and Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 1.
New this year is the addition of a judged flower show titled "Celebrate Spring" at the clubhouse.
"This provides a nice break for visitors to stop, sit down and relax with light refreshments while they view some outstanding flower creations," said Rosemary Thomas, club president.
Once visitors are out and about in Key Colony Beach, they will be treated to a wonderful variety of homes and gardens.
"There's an oceanfront condo, four lovely homes and a beautiful guest house with gardens on the tour this year," said Cindy Wooten, event chair. "We're very proud that our tour is unique because we have owners who are generous enough to open not only their gardens, but their homes to our guests. You have to search far and wide to find garden tours that include an inside peek at the homes."
Monies collected from the tour are used to keep the grounds and clubhouse in good working order, and to support local causes in the community.
"We have a long record of public service in Marathon," said Thomas. "The garden club here was established more than 50 years ago and still works as hard as it did in the beginning to promote beautiful plantings and landscapes in Marathon. We have a good sense of the importance of community and an understanding of what beauty can do to enrich our lives. We're constantly working to promote that."
Guests will also be able to buy raffle tickets for five beautiful giclee prints donated by local artists.
Tickets are $25 and are available in advance at the Marathon Garden Clubhouse, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday and Friday, 5270 Overseas Highway, Mile Marker 50. Tickets may also be purchased at Key Bana, 303 Sadowski Causeway, and the Marathon Chamber of Commerce, 12222 Overseas Highway. In addition, tickets can be purchased on the day of the event at any of the six locations on the tour or at the Marathon Garden clubhouse.
