A 19-year-old Key Largo man was arraigned Tuesday in a Nassau, Bahamas, courtroom on manslaughter charges in the death of 45-year-old Carl Yerger.
Tyler Valles, along with 62-year-old Robert Schwartz of Gaylordsville, Conn., are accused of stabbing Yerger to death at a resort on the island of Bimini.
Yerger was found dead Friday on the grounds of the Big Game Club and Resort and Marina.
Bahama Assistant Police Commissioner Emrick Seymour said the men are facing charges of manslaughter in the death of Yerger, a father of two from Ruscombmanor Township, Pa.
Seymour said the suspects claim they fought with Yerger after he allegedly tried to get on their boat.
The two men made an initial appearance Monday before a magistrate. The judge did not issue an immediate ruling on their request for bail.
Valles is a graduate of Coral Shores High School Class of 2013. Dave Porter, principal at Coral Shores, said one of Valles' former teachers heard about the incident and was "kind of dumbfounded."
"He graduated in four years," Porter said Tuesday afternoon. "He was a decent student."
Valles worked at the Pilot House in Key Largo at Mile Marker 99. Request for comment from the restaurant was declined.
A request for comment to the Royal Bahamas Police Force was not answered by presstime.
