RICHARD S. LOW, JR.
Richard S. Low, Jr. died in Key West on March 15, Sail On, Dick! Dick was born in New Hampshire but soon moved with his family to Ogunquit Maine, his second most favorite place in the world. He is survived by his life partner, Lynda Vigneault, mother Ginny Marcuri of Wells, Maine and her two sisters Muriel and Ethel, sister Jackie Nowell and step-brother Peter Marcuri, a niece and nephew Kristin and Josh Nowell and other extended family.
Dick attended Wells High School, his class having recently celebrated their 50th class reunion and SMVTI. Dick was drafted into the Army and became aide to a one-star General, his personal chef among other duties. Upon discharge from the Army, he refused to cut his hair for years!
He was a gourmet chef at many restaurants in Maine, including Poor Richard's when it was written-up in TIME magazine and the White Barn Inn. He moved on to manage two ski resorts, Eastern Slopes Inn in North Conway NH and Sugarloaf Inn at Sugarloaf, Maine. He then managed restaurants in the North Conway area.
He spent a few years in the Kennebunkport area in widely varied work, reinventing himself and then moved to Key West in 1988.
In Key West, he worked as a concierge for Southernmost, Why Not and Sebago until his retirement. Dick made close and endearing friendships on "the rock." He loved the lifestlye, climate and the people and quickly became part of the Key West family.
He was an adventurer and loved travel. He and Lynda spent many vacations traveling throughout Costa Rica and Nicaragua where they made many lifelong friends, also frequent trips to Maine to spend a few days with dear ones there.
Lynda and the rest of Dick's family send blessings to all our friends and family for their overwhelming outpouring of love. We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at LKMC, whose skilled care, kindness and love over the years were incredible.
His mom will miss his phone calls catching up and comparing the weather between his two beloved places.
It was one hell of a fun ride my love and I'm so glad we shared it! Love, Lynda
Memorial services in Ogunquit and Key West will be held at a future date. The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home is entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
