ALICIA DIAZ BASO (Weli)
Alicia Diaz Baso, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother. She was born in Key West on December 1, 1926 and died in Key West on May 7, 2014. Preceded in death by her parents Guillermo and Margo Diaz, her husband of 55 years Pedro D. Baso, sister Wilhelmina Nelson, son Manuel A. Ortega III, and daughter-in-law Donna Walencikowski.
Alica is survived by her daughter Belinda Baso Sawyer (Dailey), son Pedro G. Baso (Teresa), sister Lourdes Curll, grandchildren: Scott Baso (Janet), Stefany Veliotis (BC), Shannon Baso (Dan), Dailey Sawyer (Kimberly), Michelle Rodriguez (Alex), Alicia O. Evans (Davey), Manuel A. Ortega IV (Gina), Justine Ortega. Great grandchildren: Catina E. Morales (Jose), Brian and Tyler Baso, Gabriella, and Luke Veliotis, Paris and Jake Rodriguez, Kayla and Kendal Evans, and Alicia and Manuel A. Ortega V, and seven great-grandchildren. She leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces and nephews that meant so much to her, to mention each one by name would take several pages but she loved each one so very much. Our family has lost a very special woman, she was an Angel on Earth.
Everyone and anyone that came to her house hungry left with a very satisfied and full belly. We will miss you and we love you always.
Visitation will be Saturday at noon until funeral time. Services will be held on Saturday at Castillo & Thurston Chapel at 3 p.m. with Father John Baker officiating.
Burial will be in the family plot at Key West Cemetery. CASTILLO & THURSTON'S Key West Mortuary & Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
