The Florida Keys Mosquito Control District will begin aerial larvicide missions via helicopter, weather permitting, because of the recent rains.

The treatment area will be the western portion of Key West. Applications will occur between the hours of 6:30 and 9:30 a.m. using a mosquito larva-specific soil bacteria, according to the Mosquito Control District.

The spray is mixed with water and applied as a mist to combat Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that can transmit dengue fever, chikungunya and zika, according to the Mosquito Control District.
