ISLAMORADA — Guided by the principal fashion trend, which is change, an assembly of clothing boutiques that host the Sizzling Summer Fashion Night Out are doing just that. The nine modern clothing retailers have adapted the yearly event to adhere to the CDC-recommended social distancing guidelines.

In its seventh year, the fashion show is different this year, according to event organizer Elizabeth Huddleston, who also owns Miss Monroe Boutique and Wild Lily Boutique.

“It’s more of a scavenger-hunt-style event,” Huddleston said. “Our typical event is a crowd of 250 people in one place, so we had to revise it so everyone is not at the same place at the same time. This is a free night out and a chance to win a lot of prizes. You don’t have to be there to win. You just have to turn in your ticket.”

Fashionistas just need to visit the nine participating boutiques to have their ticket stamped at each location and turn it in at the stage in front of Blue Marlin Jewelry by 8:30 p.m. June 26 for a chance to win one of the $100 gift certificates donated by each store. Tickets are available at the boutiques and may be picked up ahead of the event or the evening of.

Danielle Pierog, who has co-hosted the event since its inception, promises a night of fun.

“We have over $1,000 worth of gift certificates. Each retailer has donated at least $100 in gift certificates and Blue Marlin Jewelry is offering jewelry, too. This is a free event with a lot of good giveaways and prizes,” she said.

Pierog, who co-owns Evolve Boutique & Beauty with partner Jodi Mientkiewicz, is planning on offering refreshments as are all the shops.

“Come early to avoid getting caught up in a crowd and stay late to enjoy the music,” she said.

DJ Fuzzy Buddha will play music during a special fashion presentation.

As for previewing hot new summer merchandise at the fashion presentation, Pierog has yet to decide.

“Gosh, I haven’t even picked out all my outfits yet but we have some really great handmade tie-dyed beachwear in. We also have Keys-inspired active wear, and our fun and trendy line which is really affordable everyday wear.”

Huddleston is planning on crafting a photo booth for her guests. She said Miss Monroe Boutique will preview its beachy bohemian styles, while Wild Lily Boutique will be showing off more glamorous vacation-style summer clothes.

The event apex is when the winners will be announced outside Blue Marlin Jewelers.

“Everyone can participate in a level that feels comfortable,” Huddleston said. “There is plenty of time for people to not come all at once and to spread out.”
