KEVIN WADLOW/Free Press Liz Hussey, a board-certified ARNP, says her Upper Keys Convenient Care office specializes in family care treatment for a range of common maladies, along with routine care.

ISLAMORADA — Time matters in the Florida Keys so Liz Hussey, an advanced registered nurse practitioner, does not want to keep patients waiting.

“I realize people’s time is important, whether it’s a local resident who needs to get to work or visitors who want to get back to their vacation,” said Hussey, owner of the Upper Keys Convenient Care practice near mile marker 86.

“I want to offer quality of care. Scheduling appointments for an appropriate time means I can spend more time with patients,” she said. “Nobody likes to spend a long time in a waiting room.”

As an ARNP with board certification in family care, Hussey can treat many types of common maladies like rashes, sore throats, flu and bronchitis, along with sprains or strains.

“Infections like swimmer’s ear are pretty common,” she said. “We have a lot of water and bacteria thrives in a warm, moist environment.”

Her office near the Snake Creek Bridge can provide rapid testing for strep throat or influenza, and send out other tests for laboratory analysis.

Hussey performs routine physicals for maritime workers and other professionals who need proof of health, along with physicals for school athletes. Women’s care, including pap smears, is available.

Working in the Florida Keys medical field for 20 years, Hussey opened Upper Keys Convenient Care in mid-2018.

“I felt there was a need for people living here who may not be able to get in to see their provider right away. Sometimes it is hard to get in because the provider is busy,” she said. “Some locals may not have a primary care physician.”

Hussey has worked in Keys family-practice physicians’ offices, local hospital outpatient clinics, at Womankind in Key West, and for the Monroe County School District’s Area Health Education Centers and the Monroe County Health Department.

“At one point, we decided it would be nice to not have a boss and be able to make our own decisions,” she said.

Upper Keys Convenient Care accepts most insurance plans like Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield and UnitedHealthcare. Self-payment rates are available.

Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with after-hours appointments based on need.

“We monitor all our messages, and I don’t live too far away,” Hussey said. “If I’m available, I’ll be close by.”

Upper Keys Convenient Care is at Stahl Plaza, mile marker 85.9, bayside. For appointments, call 305-741-7721.
