FLORIDA KEYS — At the end of the month, Monroe County School District will unleash more than 8,600 students for the two-and-a-half-month summer break. With lots of fresh air and abundant natural resources, the Florida Keys offer lots of camps, in varying price ranges, to help parents keep their kids busy this summer.

Here are a few:

Ocean Reef Club Camps

A wide variety of weekday camps will begin June 3 and run until Aug. 9 for ages 5 to 18. Sailing, scuba, swimming, pickleball, tennis, equestrian, cooking and more are being offered in alternating sessions. Call 305-367-6516 for more information or visit

Montessori Camp

The Montessori Academy of the Upper Keys is offering camp to newborns to age 6 beginning June 3 and ending Aug. 2. The camp is located at mile marker 103, oceanside. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with transportation, adventures in space, conservation and science themes among more. The cost is $250 per week. For more information, call 305-451-7077.

Florida Bay Outfitters offers paddling camp sessions in June.

Paddle Camp

Florida Bay Outfitters day camp teaches ages 8 to 12 about the nature and history of the Keys by paddling different areas every day. The weekday camp includes paddling gear, lunch and snacks, and a rash guard. The weekday camp is $295 per session, which run June 3 to 7, June 10 to 14 and June 17 to 21. Dolphin Camp

Dolphins Plus Bayside will host camps for ages 6 to 10 beginning the week of July 8 through Aug. 6. The cost is $300 per camper. Call 866-860-7946 for more information.

Aquatic Camp

For swimmers ages 5 to 12, Jacobs Aquatic Center Camp begins June 3 and runs weekly through Aug. 2. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost is $115 per week or $40 per day. Campers must bring a sack lunch. Water will be provided at all times and an afternoon snack is included. Please do not bring spray sunscreen. For more information, call 305-453-7946.


Sessions are from June 3 to Aug. 9 for ages 5 through 12. The cost is $125 per week with a $50 registration fee. Sibling discounts are offered. Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The YMCA is located at the Key Largo Community Park on St. Croix Street. For more information, call 305-453-3422.

Sailing Camp

The Mark Sorensen Sailing Camp is offered to three different age groups ranging from 5 to 16 years old. Week sessions begin June 10 and are offered through Aug. 2. Prices vary depending on age from $300 to $575. For more information call 305-747-2600.

REEF Ocean Explorers

Reef Environmental Education Foundation is holding its fifth summer of waterfront activities for day campers ages 7 to 13 at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. The next available sessions are July 15 and July 29. The June 24 session is currently sold out. Campers must bring a sack lunch. For more information, call 305-852-0030 or visit

4-H Camp

Campers ages 8 to 13 may attend the residential 4-H camp at Camp Cloverleaf “Gator Adventures” July 22 to 26 in Lake Placid. There’s no requirement for 4-H membership. The camp costs $300. Register online at at

Monroe students are also invited to join Miami-Dade 4H during their Camp Cloverleaf session which is June 17 to 21. Parents will need to provide transportation to and from the camp located on the Lake Wales Ridge just north of Lake Placid. The 4-H Camp Cloverleaf is situated on Lake Francis, a 545-acre basin with plenty to explore.

Dance Camp

On Your Toes Dance Studio is offering beginner and intermediate/advanced acrobatics and dance camps in weeklong sessions June 3 through July 8. Camps will be held at the studio in Tavernier. The cost ranges from $150 to $200 a week. For more information, call 305-852-3818.

Ocean Studies’ Enrichment Camps

Ocean Studies Charter School will host its “Under the Sea” camp from June 10 from July 15. It’s “Wind and Sea” camp runs June 17 and its “Island Explorer” runs June 24. The camps are offered to ages 6 to 12. The cost is $219 per week. Call 305-852-7700 for more information.

Scuba Camp

Capt. Slate’s Summer Scuba Camp will run three weekly sessions on June 10, July 8 and Aug. 5 for ages 11 to 18. The cost is $385 per session and the camp is located in the Casa Mar Village at mile marker 91. For more information, call 305-451-3020.

Art Camp

Veronica’s art camp will run five sessions from June 3 through July 15 to cover drawing and painting, collage and paper mache and mosaic interests for ages 7 to 10. Islamorada Summer Rec

Founders Park in Islamorada accepts children ages 6 to 12 for its 2019 summer camp sessions running from June 3 to July 26.

Islamorada’s summer camp are 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Kids will play games and sports, make arts and crafts, watch movies and go swimming at the pool and beach. Camp sessions are $95 with sibling discounts offered. Registration is recommended. For more information, call 305-853-1685.

Founders Park also offers summer sport clinics run by independent coaches affiliated with the park. Those clinics include aquatic instruction for new swimmers, competitive swimmers, springboard divers and synchronized swimmers. A swimming-and-diving combo program is available. All Sports Camp

Coach Lesa Bonee is offering All Sports Camp sessions on June 10 and June 17 at Founders Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ages 5 and up. There’s a variety of sports planned every day, including water games. The cost is $150 per session if reserved before June 1 with sibling and repeat discounts available. Kiteboarding/Adventure Camp

The oTHErside Boardsports Adventure Summer Camp will host four sessions from June 10 through July 22 from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kids ages 8 to 12 will kiteboard, sail, wakeboard, rock climb, skateboard and make crafts throughout the week. Dolphin Camp

The Dolphin Research Center has two camp sessions still available. The June 8 session is for ages 10 to 12 and the session for ages 13 to 14 begins June 29.

Marathon Summer Rec

The Marathon Parks and Recreation Department offers weekly summer camps at Marathon Community Park from June 3 to Aug. 9 for ages 5 to 13. The cost is $80 per week with a $20 sibling discount offered.

Sailing at Boot Key Harbor

The Marathon Yacht Club Education Foundation is offering six sailing camp sessions for ages 6 to 18 in one- or two-week sessions from June 10 through Aug. 9. The Art Studio

The Marathon Art Studio has three available camp sessions remaining. For artist campers over the age of 8, two sessions will be offered June 24 and July 15. The week session for ages 5 to 7 is offered July 8.

Scuba Camp
