Nearly 10 percent of registered voters turned out to vote early in the special election to decide if the City of Key West should buy the The Key West Citizen newspaper building on Northside Drive.

As of the end of early voting on Saturday, 15,026 voters, or 9.9 percent, cast ballots early, according to the Monroe County Supervisor of Elections. Of that, 301 people voted by mail and 1,195 voted early.

Voters who did not vote early can cast ballots at their voting precincts from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 16. Voters will decide whether the city should buy The Citizen property for roughly $5 million from Cooke Communications, the previous owners of the newspaper, and use it as the Community Services facility.
