Theresa Java/Free Press The Winn-Dixie Key Largo is unveiling its freshly-renovated grocery store with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and festivities. Inside the store, the produce section has expanded with more fruits and vegetables, among other changes.

KEY LARGO – The most notable differences at the freshly remodeled Winn-Dixie at mile marker 105 is the façade and the revised entryway to the newly added liquor store.

Followed by a 10-week renovation, the store is reintroducing itself to the community with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, with a live music performance by Islamorada Steel Drum Band, a performance by the Key Largo School band and a $1,000 check presentation to the Conch Republic Marine Army.

The grocery retailer is giving the first 100 customers to arrive at the store at 8 a.m. a free mystery gift card valued between $5 and $250.

The updated Key Largo store completes the facelift to the Winn-Dixie suite in the Florida Keys. All five stores have been updated, consistent with the grocer’s brand and quality.

In March, Winn-Dixie refreshed its Key West, Tavernier and Big Pine Key locations, and reopened its Marathon store which was offline for 18 months due to Hurricane Irma’s destruction.

“Winn-Dixie has been at the heart of the Florida Keys since we opened our first store in Key Largo in 1972. For nearly 50 years, we have established a history of commitment and excellent service that our customers have come to love and expect,” said Eddie Garcia, executive vice president of Store Growth for Southeastern Grocers.

Other notable differences are the updated produce department with a larger selection and a café seating area serving baked goods, coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. There are more ready-made lunch and dinner offerings that can be taken to go or eaten at the new café.

The store offers an improved organic section and a full-service meat department with a butcher on-site to make fresh cuts by request. Sushi will also be offered.

Seafood shoppers are offered “Seafood Made Easy” option which allows customers to choose the type of seafood, vegetables and seasoning to be packaged together for easy preparation at home.

Winn-Dixie will also offer grocery delivery through Shipt. Customers can now order Winn-Dixie products, including alcohol, to be delivered directly to their doorstep or picked up at the store.

The new liquor store will offer a wide assortment of spirits, wine and beer and will exclusively retail the new Islamorada Key Lime Hibiscus Ale Beer later this month and donate a portion of proceeds for every six-pack sold to the grocer’s official Florida Keys partner, the Conch Republic Marine Army.

The grand opening ceremony is free and open to all. The Key Largo store is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and is located at 105300 Overseas Highway. For more information, visit winndixie.com and segrocers.com.
